to be famous on the internet, you must first multiply yourself by many times. in order to be popular, you must populate all virtual domains with copies of yourself. celebrities are celebrated because they have proliferated all spaces; according to google, there are over 12,500 jennifer lopezes and over 4,000 j.los (not counting all different variations on spelling and punctuation). thanks to the advanced technologies of today, you can saturate the market with yourself by simply highlighting and tapping CTRL-C. you are lucky. in the middle ages, becoming (off-line) famous was much more difficult. creating multiple copies of yourself required elaborate set-ups of mirrors placed at precise mathematical angles; one such example of this practice is the "catoptric theatre" of Athanasius Kircher. see picture.
